Learn How To Sew A Zigzag
Posted in Learn to sew
Before this, you should have read Learn how to sew straight stitchings.
The zigzag stitch is very important. It is used to enclose the raw edge on any seam allowance, refine your sewing work, and prevent it from fraying over time. Again, you need to find how to set your sewing machine in this working mode. Usually there is a knob with the various stitch types drawed around. If not, you have not trashed your user manual yet, have you?
Most machines allow to set both zigzag length and width. If your fabric is somewhat frail, it is better to use tight points, while hard-wearing fabrics can bear larger points.
Once the machine is set:
- Place the fabric so that its side is centered with the half of the presser foot.
- Press the pedal to start. The needle will move side-to-side. From now on, the most important thing to to is to keep the fabric centered, so that the machine makes a stitch over and one out of it.
- Finally, trim the excess thread with your scissors. Your needlework will look better and will last longer.
